Therapy is more than just "talking about your problems." Therapy is not advice. I will never tell you what to do, but rather I help you come to your own conclusions based on what you know to be true. A therapist is both more than a friend and also less than a friend. Good therapeutic rapport can make the session enjoyable, but it won't just feel like hanging out. I will push you to your limits. Good therapy is uncomfortable and it challenges you to grow. Sometimes you leave a good session feeling worse, because your defenses have been stripped away and you've been forced to confront a distressing emotion or reality that you've been avoiding. Over the full course of therapy, it gets harder and it gets worse before it gets significantly better. I will be there with you every step of the way and I have full confidence that you will see results if you commit yourself fully and stick it out.
Please see the sub-pages for more information about why people go to therapy and what to talk about.
